The Natural Way to Rejuvenate a Man’s Eyes
Some cultures say that the eyes are the window of the soul and thus by looking into them one can read your inner most thoughts. Others say that you can generally read a person’s health and mood through the eyes. It’s no wonder as a society that we are obsessed with our peepers… from the style of glasses we wear to keeping our eyes looking young and vibrant.
Men’s eyes suffer the most, but that’s not due to the fact that we are men (it’s not something in our genes), it’s more that in general men do not pay nearly half as much attention to their eyes as women do. Thankfully all that is changing now with men becoming more interested in anti-ageing and grooming. Keeping the eyes young and healthy is now high on many men’s ‘must do’ lists, and even more so now with many cosmetic and skincare brands and producers specialising in eye creams and serums for men.
How to Naturally Remove Dark Circles, Bags and Puffiness from Under the Eyes
Even if using store bought creams and serums, it is always a good idea to have a natural regime for removing dark circles from under the eyes and combating wrinkles and fine lines. We have lined up three natural and effective remedies for putting the twinkle back in your eyes and giving them a youthful boost.
It’s a well-known fact that cucumber is beneficial to the eyes, due to its cooling and calming properties. Cucumber has a high water content that is great for hydrating the skin around the eyes and especially when used directly from the fridge.
Take two thick slices of fresh cucumber from the fridge and place them so they entirely cover the eye. Lie back with your head flat or on a tilt and rest, allowing the cucumber to calm and soothe the skin for about 15 to 20 minutes. This will work wonders for your eyes and help in relaxing them, reducing puffiness.
Another old trick that is equally effective is placing cold tea bags on your eyes. However, this is also dependent on what type of tea you use. Many swear that chamomile soothes and is the perfect compress for tired eyes. Green tea is one of my favourite remedies for reducing dark circles and tired skin. It is a well-known fact that green tea carries a large amount of the anti-oxidant Polyphenols, which in turn carries the compound EGCG, an effective anti-inflammatory.
For best results place two green tea bags in a cup of boiling water and then place in the fridge until cooled. Sit or lie back with your head tilted and place one tea bag on each eye. Leave on for 10 to 20 minutes. The tea bags will reduce puffiness, dark circles and aid in treating damaged skin.
Combating Eye Wrinkles and Fine Lines
There is no real way to rid oneself of wrinkles from around the eyes naturally, though these simple steps can go a long way to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles:
- Drink lots of water – Doctors cannot stress enough that water is so important to us. Drink at least eight glasses of the stuff a day. Water will aid in maintaining your skin and help flush unwanted toxins from your body.
- Always use sunblock and apply a small amount around the eyes on top of your daily eye cream regime. This may not be in line with the natural remedies we have discussed in this article but it will provide protection against the harmful effects of the environment, which is one of the causes of premature ageing.
- A metal teaspoon left in your fridge is great for achieving fast results for diminishing lines and puffiness. Use for about 10 to 15 minutes before going out, and follow with a light eye cream.
- Good diet is the key to all-round general health. Adding fish such as Mackerel and salmon that are both high in Omega-3 will promote good eye health.
What Causes Dark Circles, Puffiness, and Lines under the Eyes?
There are many reasons that men suffer from this, including it being hereditary – Yes, that’s right, dark circles can be passed down via the family genes through generations; Lack of sleep will create dark circles or enhance existing ones; too much salt will create puffiness (so try not to munch on savoury snacks before bed); not enough water and a poor diet will also cause damage., not only to your eyes but other parts of your body too.
So remember, even if you don’t feel like carrying out some of the remedies mentioned in this article, then at the very least keep your water consumption high. Not only will it keep your body in a healthy condition but your skin will benefit enormously from the additional hydration, and aid in repairing the skin.
